It’s taken a while put here is the final prezi from our event in September.  This one is very short and covers some of the challenges that need to be faced when using social media and digital technology to keep everyone safe from the possible pitfalls that we can easily fall in to.

Last week Digital Mission held its first event in partnership with the Manchester and Stockport Methodist district.  The morning went really well and there were some fruitful discussions that took place during the event as well as some leads to follow up for the future.

This post contains one of the Prezi’s used during the event and I will be releasing the other two over the next couple of days.  I have also included a link to some notes that go alongside the Prezi so you can try and catch the emphasis of the presentation.

#MSsynod : A new kind of connection

This is part of the events series. For other posts click here.

As you will have all been aware the Digital Mission blog has been rather low on it’s output over the last few months.  This has been for various reasons but you will be glad to hear that we are getting back on the wagon.

One reason for the lack of posts is that we have been working closely with the Manchester and Stockport Methodist District to help integrate the use of social media into all areas of its work.  One of the ways we have been doing this is by helping prepare for one of the districts big meetings that took place in September by creating some presentations in Prezi, some video and of course some social media.

Keeping you updated

We have been busy... honest

You will have noticed that the posts have slowed down over the last two weeks but that doesn’t mean we have run out of things to write about.  In fact it’s for the exact opposite reason.  Over the coming months Digital Mission has some exciting projects that it’s involved with and at the moment a lot of prep time is being put in to these areas.

In the mean time I thought I would give you a brief run down of what we are doing and what it involves.

Manchester and Stockport Methodist District work

Over the next few months Digital Mission will be involved in a number of areas that span from helping with a new blog to creating some visuals for the next district synod (large meeting) using prezi and other software.  Having had a number of discussions about the use of social media Digital Mission will also me setting up a twitterfall for the event and encouraging interaction both from inside and outside the meeting.

Engaging the Facebook Generation

Towards the end of September we will be hosting a gathering for people who are interested in exploring the opportunity’s and challenges of the digital revolution and how the church can begin to better engage with this area.  Look out for more details in the coming month and get involved if it is an area that interests you.

Other bits

As well as these two major bits of work there are a number of other smaller projects that are being worked on.  These included the possible assistance in creating a couple of blogs/websites for some people and any background work needed to connect them to their existing digital presence.

Despite this work we are always looking for other areas in which we can help so if you have a need all you have to do is contact us and we will see what we can do to help out.

In the meantime look out for our forthcoming posts on blogs, prezi and Microsoft tags.

Checking in: Creating a digital presence on Gowalla

This is part of the How to series. For other posts click here.

Gowalla is probably the smallest of the check in style social media apps but does have the advantage of allowing your facebook places and foursquare check in’s to be linked with it.  As with the last two how to’s you will need to be at the location you want to add for gps purposes and I am using the iPhone and official Gowalla app again to set this up.

This is part of the How to series. For other posts click here.

Following on from the digital presence post this how to will show you how to add your church/organisation to foursquares so that it appears when people are looking for nearby places and so that people can check in when they are at that location.

As with the facebook places how to, you will need to be at the location you want to add so that the gps can pick up the correct location you want to add.
